New Traffic Bridge by Waipawa

SURVEY IN PROGRESS. (Special to "Times.") HASTINGS, Last Night. Three of the Public Works Department's surveyors, Messrs Wilkie, Gerrard and Watters, are now in Waipawa completing a survey of the site for a new traffic bridge parallel with the new railway bridge. Tho matter was brought to the notice of the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, on his recent visit to Waipawa. He was impressed with tho proposal that a new bridge should bo erected which would carry the main highway straight from the main streel to the reserve at the south side of the river, shortening the distance to Wellington by some two miles and giving a much more direct and convenient route.

The Minister said that the demands on tho Highways Board funds might prevent the work from being carried out at once, but he considered it was one of the necessary works, and promised that the project would receive early consideration.

That the matter has not been lost sight of, is disclosed by the presence of the department’s surveyors, and the completion of the preliminary survey ■work will be a decided step forward.
