Death of Mr. T. P. McCarthy

HEART FAILURE THE VERDICT. (Special to “Times.") NAPIER Last Night. That death was due to coronary thrombosis, a cause of heart failure, was the verdict of Mr A. E. Bedford, J.P., Napier coroner, at the resumed inquest this morning into the death of Timothy Patrick McCarthy, of Port Ahuriri, who died at the Napier Public Hospital on December 21 last. McCarthy, who took an enthusiastic interest in public affairs of the district, was secretary of the Napier Labour Day Sports Committee and the Port Ahuriri Caledonian Society, in addition to being a member of the Napier Secondary Education Board.

Medical evidence by Dr. A. G. Clark, acting-medical superintendent at the Napier Public Hospital, revealed thnt Mr McCarthy was admitted to hospital in the afternoon of December 21, 1936. He was extremely ill and died some hours later. A post-mortem examination was ordered, but this revealed nothing that could warrant a certificate as to the cause of death.

Detective-Sergeant H. Nuttall said that the contents of the deceased's stomach were sent to Dr. P. Lynch, Pathologist at Wellington, for examination. Witness produced a certificate from Dr. Lynch stating that the cause of death was coronary thrombosis (heart trouble).
