Death of Domestic
OPERATION IN WELLINGTON. (Special to “Times.) NAPIER, Last Night. A verdict that Beulah Bray-Gunu, a 19-year-old domestic, died at the Napier Public Hospital on November 27 last, as the result of septicaemia following abortion, was returned by the Napier coroner, Mr A. E. Bedford, J.P., at the resumed inquiry this morning into the death of Miss Bray-Gunn, who was an employee at the Masonic Hotel. The ,Coroner added that there was no evidence to show that the abortion was not due to natural causes. Evidence relating to a post-mortem was given by Dr. J. Allan Berry, of Napier, who recalled visiting the deceased at her quarters and then ordering her to the Napier Public Hospital, where she died. There was no evidence to show whether there had been any criminal interference. Dorothy Hindrup, an ex-employee of the Masonic Hotel, Napier, said that the deceased was a fellow-employee sharing the same room. She recalled her saying last October that she was going to Wellington to receive medical attention. In November she said that her operation had been successful. Detective-Sergeant H. Nuttall said that inquiries made at Wellington had definitely proved that deceased had never been a patient at the Wellington Public Hospital between October 26, 1936, and November 10, 1936. Witness had established, however, that she was in Wellington, but her movements there could not be traced by the police.
