Brisk Selling in Fat Cattle Market
STORTFORD VALUES £1 A HEAD BETTER THAN LAST WEEK.

Another very short yarding of fat cattle at Stortford Lodge today met with a brisk market to sell at £1 and more a head better than last week's sharply advanced price levels.
The yarding of 126 head consisted of 60 station-bred sorts, the remainder 'being Jersey and Jersey cross.
The entry, which consisted almost (entirely of female sorts, included only a small percentage of good-quality lots, for which competition was particularly keen among the local butchers. The top lines of cows made to £ll, with good medium sorts making to £8 15/-. Plain finished lots also sold particularly well, making to £7 10/which was fully £2 and better above values ruling a few weeks ago. A large percentage of the cows had age against them, the short yarding assisting greatly in their being sold. A few medium-grown young prime-qual-ity heifers were in keen demand, making good* sales. The only ox-beef entries in the sale, a heavy dehorned Hereford particularly well finished, brought £l4j The Jersey section of the offering! consisted chiefly of plain-finished lots! lacking quality. The store cattle sec-l tion was made up of a few small en-j tries of miscellaneous sorts, a descript entry. Realisations for fat cattle were asj underi— • HEIFER VALUES. Two clean-bred, medium to prime-quality Abereen-Angus heifers,! choice young summer beef, met with! eager competition to sell at £9 10/-, A medium to heavy, extra-prime finished Shorthorn heifer of particularly good quality, young beef, made £9‘ 12/6. 1 A medium-framed, young AberdecnAngus, prime-finished, made £8 16/-. Three heavier Aberdeen-Angus-Hero-ford cross prime-finished heifers, extra fine quality young beef brought £9 8/-. COW RATES. A single heavy, clean-bred AberdeenAngus cow, extra prime finished, a quality entry, realised £lO 18/-. In the same pen two lighter, simi-larly-bred, well-finished cows brought £8 17/-. A bid of £ll secured an extra-prime quality, young, heavy Shorthorn-cross cow in splendid order. A heavy dehorned, prime-quality Hereford £OW, well done, made £lO 15/-. A slightly smaller-framed Shorthorn cow showing prime quality, well finished, brought £lO 5/-. A plain-finished, dehorned Hereford cow of medium quality made £7 12/6. Two medium* to heavy, clean-bred Aberdeen-Angus cows showing prime quality, well finished entries, brought £9. In the same pen a heavier crossbred, also well finished, brougtft £9 17/-.
Four medium to heavy AberdeenAngus cows, of good average quality, brought £8 15/-. Three long-framed, heavy AberdeenAngus cows, showing a rather plain finish, brought £lO. Four horned, aged Hereford fcows, heavy and carrying quite a lot of condition, sold particularly well to make £lO 1/-.
Four smaller-iyamed, horned Hereford cows of average quality and finish brought £8 15/-.
