Bookmaking Charges

FINES TOTALLING £560 IMPOSED. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Jan. 27. In the police court to-day Robert David Donaldson and John Philip Lonaldson were fined £250 each for bookmaking. Fines imposed on three other young men, two for assisting and the third for permitting the use of premises, brought the Crown’s accretion of revenue to £560. The police stated that for the first day of the Wellington meeting 489 beta were taken for a total of £sll, while the total for the meeting was 1927 bets for £1247. Bank deposits showed that since July 25th a sum of £8504 had been paid to the Donaldson credit, on which figures £1489 would have ac-

crued to the Government, had the noney passed through the totalisator.
