Hopelands Gift Evening

FUNCTION FOR MISS SARGEANT. The residents of the Hopelands district gave a social afternoon in the Hopelands schoolroom recently in honour of Miss Nancy Sargeant whose marriage takes place early next month. The president of the Women’s Institute, Mrs B. H. Norman, on behalf of those present, took the opportunity of presenting a crystal vase to Miss Sargeant, who has been a prominent member of the Institute. She was the recipient of many useful and some expensive gifts testifying to her popularity in the district. Mrs Norman conveyed to Miss Sargent the wishes of her many friends for her future happiness, and thanked her for her assistance to the Institute on numerous occasions. Miss Sargent briefly expressed her appreciation and thanks, whereupon, assisted by Miss N. Toogood, sho proceeded to open the array of presents. The function terminated with the handing round of afternoon tea.
