The wind has played havoc in and around the Pahiatua district. In Mangamutu, farmers who had cut their hay lind that the bulk is all along the fences, like so much flax drifting. It seems that right through the Wairarapa the last few days the wind has been at gale force. On Friday a motorcycle rider who participated in the Pahiatua motor-cycle sports, travelled up by a light car and from Featherston to Pahiatua he was obliged to travel in second gear due to the strong wind. The two riders who suffered injuries at the Pahiatua motor-cycle meeting were both able to proceed home <the same evening after receiving medical attention. Barney Rhodes had a bad crash in the seventh race and was picked up unconscious while P. Bowe had the misfortune to break a bone in his foot while riding. The return of patients for December at the Pahiatua hospital was as follows the figures for the corresponuing month of 1935 being given in parentheses:—ln hospital on November 30, 19 (19); admitted during month, 34 (31); discharged, 31 (37); in hospital on December 31, 22 (13). Daily average, 21 (16).
