Patients’ Fees at Wairarapa Institutions

COLLECTIONS MAINTAINED. *‘ln the aggregate the collection of patients* fees is being maintained/* stated tho managing-secretary, Mr Norman Lee, at Wednesday's meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board. Mr Lee added that he felt sure that, the total amount estimated for the three institutions would be collected. For tho period, April 1 to December 31, the position in regard to patients* fees was as follows, the estimated collections being given in jmren theses following the actual collections: Masterton Hospital, £3856 (£3563); Greytown Hospital, £2llO (£1725); Pahiatua Hospital, £956 (£975); other hospitals, £179 (£375); totals, £6831 (£6638). Mr Lee stated that the daily average of occupied beds for the period April 1 to December 31 was as follows, the estimated average being given in parentheses: Masterton Hospital, 113.7 (109); Greytown Hospital, 10.8 (10); Buchanan Home, 62 (68); Pahiatua Hospital, 19.1 (18). The cost per occupied bed for the period was equivalent to an annual cost of: Masterton Hospital, £180; Greytown Hospital and Buchanan Home, £125; Pahiatua Hospital, £173. The chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, said that before Christmas there was actually one more patient in tho Masterton Hospital than the actual number of available beds.
