Perry Again Beats Vines

Perry gave a superb demonstration of how to play tennis under pressure to beat Vines 6 —3, 9 —7, I—6, 6—3, before 6000 spectators who paid 10,000 dollars to see the eighth match of the professional tour in which Perry leads by five matches to three. Perry came from behind the win the first two sets after terrific struggles. He coasted in the third and played his best in the final set in which he won three consecutive games after the score was 3 all. The final game went to deuce four times before Vines’ nerves snapped under the tension and he slammed two returns into the net to end the match. In the doubles match Perry and Vine* defeated Lott and Barnes, 3—6, 6~- 4, 6—l. VINES HAS HIS REVENGE. PERRY OFF HIS GAME. Received Sunday, 11.20 p.m. BALTIMORE, Jan. 24. Vines defeated Perry 6—l, 7 —3. The latter was badly off form. His lervice was simply not working and he was doublefaulting continuously. He won the first game in the first set. His service held until the scores were 5—5. In the second set Vines again broke through the Englishman's service through the latter’s doublefaults in the eleventh game, running out the match. At Tampa, Florida, Tilden defeated Richards 6—3, 6—l.
