AWAHOU RIDING.
Perhaps* the public was. exercised more over the result of this election than that of all the other ridings together. Parly feeling ran so. high on both sides, that others beside the electors themselves naturally looked forward to the result with some curiosity, and although, it was the opinion of a good many that Mr Thynne , had by the course- he- had adopted, entirely lost the support of his former admirers, still :few were prepared fer tlie. terrible- beating he received. When it is. remembered; that most of those who, were m. favor of him were in the ; possession of a.plur-li.y' of votes and that Loudon polled almost two to, one, ■ there can be no doubt as to. his. defeat being the unanimous action of the electors, generally,, and not that of a pow erf ul few. The ,'fact also of Rockstrow leading him by • twenty eight votes, m itself speaks volumes. From the figures it will be. seen, that Dawson from the first was a complete outsider. The folio wing is, the voting :--^- Loudon ... ...... 92 Rockstrow. .. ... ... .. 86. Thynne- ... ..... 58, Dawson . ... ... . 36 It will therefore be seen that. Loudon, and Rockstrow are. the elected of the people.
