It was of course well-known that Mr Halcombe would liave a large following m Feildinjif, but no one was prepared for the overwhelming majority which hfr obtained over Mr Lash m that township, alone — amounting to. almost one . hundred. It will be seen from the returns 'that even- if Halcombe Town voted to a man for Lash and Macarthur, it would, by ' no means, meet the majority for Halcombe m Feilding, and that consequently Mr Lash never had a shadow of a chance. As. an . index of the estimation m. which Mr Maci art-hup is held, we may note that he stood at the head of the poll at the- three booths. ■ The- following are the particulars.:— • Feilding.
