In. this. riding the representation, was contested forby Mr-Robert McKenzie, and. Mr John. Gower, the latter, being the late member. The prevoiling opinion- was that Mr McKenzie would win the day, on opinion which we believed, was shared, m by Mr Gower himself, nevertheless, he determined to fight the battle to the last, and fortune favored, his pluck, as he gained tho day by 17 Voteß. The polling was : Gower .... .... TO McKenzie ... ... 57 Majority for Gower ... _17 These were all the ridings m which there : . were contests ; Kiwitea having returned, Mr Carr ; Oroua,. Mr Sanson ; Horowhenua, Mr Kebbell. The first meeting, takes on Wednesday, the. 27th inst. f We cannot conclude without heartily enr f dorsing ;the remarks of our contemporary '. with regard to the very fair, impartial, and efficient manner- m which Mr Cook, the Roturning Officer, performed his duties. His only effort seemed to be to study the convenience cf candidates and electors alike, and that he fully succeeded, all will be willing, to bear witness.
