LICENSING COURT.

An adjourned meeting of the Idcens- J ing Court was held at noon, the commissioners present being B. Ward, Esq., B.M. (chairman) ; J. T. Stewart, Esq., J.P. ; and Dr. Eockstrow, J.P. The clerk read the following reports regarding the two houses at present licensed m Foxton : — r " Police Station, , Foxton, Dec. 17th, 1877.— Sir,— In accordance with instructions received from * the Chairman of the Licensing Bench, I have the i honor, to report that I inspected the Manawatu Hotel, Foxton, kept by , Samuel Tansley, and. found the house -and premises scrupulously clean: There hasbeen no misconduct or mismanagement come under my observation. I have heard many complaints, but on enquiry I have found them to .be frivolous. — I have, &c, (signed) John Pubcem.—The,, Clerk of the Licensing Bench, Foxton." "Police Station, Foxton, Dec. 17th, 1877.— 5ir,-r-I have to report that I have visited and inspected Whyte's Hotel, kept by Mr A. J. Whyte, and have to state thai; the house has been kept as a first-class hotel. The Superintendent Inspector of the A.C. Force has stated to me that the above .is one of the. best houses m management and cleanliness he has entered m his tour of inspection. — (I have, &c, (signed) John Pubcbll.— The Clerk to the Licensing Bench, Foxton."

The Chairman said that . the Bench considered the reports made by the District Constable were decidedly satisfactory, and the Bench were much pleased that such was the case. They considered that it was but fair to the publicans that a quarterly report should be funrished/f to the Bench, so that m the case of any complaints being made against them they might have timely warning ; and they must requegt that m future a quarterly report would be made by the Constable.
