MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held, at the Council Chambers, oh Wednesday, the 19th inst., at 7.30 p.m. ' : •-■'. PBESENT. Crs. McNeil, Snelson, Macarthur, Gower, Thynne (Chairman.) The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. PBECIS~OF LETTERS. From John Bryce, M.H.R., informing the chairman that the Parliament had voted £1000 for continuation of the ! Kimbolton Road, and asking if the , Council were willing to undertake the expenditure m conjunction with the £210 voted by the Council. "From Thomas Bevan, jun., concerninff salary for the Waikawa Perry. From Commissioner of Crown Lands, referring to the sale of 8,600 acres of Crown Lands near Palmerston, and saying' that felling the bush on the road lines and drainage of the block was now under the consideration of the Minister for Lands and Immigration. - From J. Barton, C.E., asking for instructions re County, roads. From Minister .of Public Works, re locomotive employed m connection with the Karere Road; £247 10s 2d had been- charged to Constructed Railways Department, and a balance of £102 4s 2d would be handed to the' County. From Rangitikei County Council, re removal of logs from the Rangitikei Bridge ; the same would receive imattention. ACCOUNTS PASSED. The following accounts were passed : — Roads Maintenance — Palmerston to Carnarvon Junction* £9 5s lOd ; Eoxton to Sandon, £8 9s ; Awahuri to Feilding, £8 9s; Palmerston to Gorge, £8 15s; Palmerston to Bulls, £37 14s; OtaM Ferry, £2 12s ; Foxton ferry, £2 11s ; J. W. Liddell,£2 7s 7d ; Lyon & Blair, £2 15s ; Chairman (honorarium), £150 ; .Clerk to the Council '(salary), £25; J. Bevan;-£9. ; • MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS . ' Proposed by Cr. Grower, and seconded by Cr. Snelson, " That m the opinion of this Council the Engineer should con-, suit with Cr. Gower as early as possible respecting .the best way of expending the vote of £200 on Sandon and Foxton road ; and on receiving their united report, the Chairman of County Council is. empowered to call for tenders, to be be sent m by next meeting of the Council." — Carried. Proposed by Cr. Macaethub, and seconded by Cr. Halcbmbe, " That Mr Barton be instructed to prepare specifications for the formation and bridgework on the Kimbolton Road through the Kiwitea Block, and that tenders be called for the work in' small sections so soon as it. can be ascertained that the £1,000 voted ( by Parliament will be placed at the disposal of the County Council for expenditure." — Carried. . Proposed by Cr. Halcombe, and seconded by Cr. Macarthur, " That the cost of ferries and large bridges, with the river banks m connection therewith, shall be .held to be, and. to have been since the establishment of the County, a charge on the whole i County, and not on the particular riding within which the ferry or, bridge is siftiated."
