AUCKLAND.
Wednesday. At the City Council to-day, MrH. Brett was inducted as Mayor, and delivered an address. He referred at length to the water supply, and other prominent civic topics. The mail steamer City of Sydney sailed at noon to-day for San Erancisco. There were only five passengers from Auckland and three from 'Well* ington. The railway from fTgaruaw&hia to Hamilton was opened to-day. There was. great rejoicing at Hamilton. An excurison train left Auckland this morning and returned this evening. Major Te Wheore, from Waikato, was amongst [the natives who welcomed - Sir George Grey to-day.
