i^r" Friday. A destructive fire took place this morning. A large amount of valuable perty was destroyed. .Everything m the township was dry as tinder, owing to' the long drought. The Mansotiic Hotclj the finest m Gisborne, and range of offices adjoining, and "Standard " newspaper office, were burnt to the ground. The " Herald " office was^in gre it danger for some iime and was saved. with difficulty by the volunteers '■ with buckets of ' water. The ;whqle street was strewed with billiarii table and furniture, of every description. Most of the property w:as insured. Loss is roughly estimated at ten thousand pounds.
