Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 2

Because of the importance of making up the deficiencies in the Territorial /units as soon as possible, the medical examination of the men drawn in the first ballot has been expedited and will commence on Monday.

A start was made to-day with sending out notices for the first groups to appear before the medical boards. Provision has been made for men who through sickness or other disability are unable to attend at the appointed places. They will be examined by the visiting board at their own homes. All appeals against the call-up must be communicated within ten days of the Gazette publication to the secretary of the Man-Power Committee in the respective areas. A total of 16,000 names have been drawn in the first ballot, but only 6070 are required immediately for the Territorial units.
