DIRECT STATE CONTROL

(British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 1.20 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 24. Mr R. Assheton (Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour), who is chairman of the Government Works and Building Priority Committee announces direct Government control over building and civil engineering works by a licensing system which is coming into force bn October 7. No license is needed for operations undertaken by a Government department, operations paid for in whole or part by the Government, operations costing less than £ooo, and the maintenance of works, repairs, or demolition.'Special arrangements have been made to release controlled materia tor urgent building work necessitated by air raid damage.
