(United Press Association—Copyright.) (British Official Wireless.) (Rec. 11 a.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 16. Large gifts from all over the world continue to be sent to the Lord.,Mayor’s London Air Raid Distress Fund. The GovernorGeneral of New Zealand has telegraphed from the Patriotic Funds.
Five thousand pounds have been, sent from the British colony in Buenos Aires and £IOOO from the Maharaja of Durbhanga. Brisbane has cabled another £25.000, the Governor of the United Provinces (India) a lakh of rupees, and the British AFar Relief Organisation in New York, £SOOO. A fund opened by a Kenya newspaper already amounts to over £BOO.
At a meeting of the executive of the Air Raid Distress Fund large grants were made to meet t'he needs of the afflicted boroughs. In one case £SQOO was given.
Tlie Lord Mayor (Alderman S. S. Crick) yesterday launched a fund in Sydney on behalf of the victims of German bombing in Great Britain, the aim of which is £250,000. Gifts imme-. diately forthcoming brought the day’s total to £15,000. A Melbourne report says that since Thursday £130,000 has been subscribed in Afictoria in aid of the victims of the raids. The organisers of the fund state that money is still liberally pouring in. A collection taken up in one group of theatres on Saturday night realised £IOOO. Suburban municipal councils are considering a plan to add one penny to the rates and give the proceeds to the fund. All the newspapers have opened funds. The Argus has already raised £15,000 and tne Herald £7OOO.
