SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNEY.
LOAVER GRADE COAIPETITION. A seven-aside tournament for lower grade players was held at Rugby Park on Saturday, proving satisfactory from every point of view. Two grades, junior and third, took part, Kia Toa A
winning the- junior and High School the third grade. There were numerous entries, although the tournament was only for local teams. Some interesting games were seen. The ground was in good order, and covered with a thick sole of grass. Mr P. 0. Skoglund was games controller and time-keeper arid Mr M. Kilpatrick blackboard steward. Other officials of the junior advisory board of the Manawatu Union who assisted in arranging the tournament were Messrs It. Poster, E. Clevely and L. Cooksley. The referees were Messrs C. Eglinton, B. Trow, L. Cooksley, E. Jackson, J. Gonley, Shearman, Davidson, Charles and York. Trophies were handed to the successful teams after the tournament. The gate takings were devoted to the St. John Ambulance Brigade. Details are: JUNIOR GRADE. First round. —Ivia Toa A beat, Halcombs B by default; Old Boys A boat Bunny - tliorpe B by default; United 19 v. Kia 'loa B 0; Ohakea 3 v. Halcombe A 0. Second round. —Kia Toa A 16 v. Old Boys B 0: Old Boys A 5 v. Feilding Old Boys 8; United 8 v. St. Patrick’s 0; Bunnythorpe A 4 (including a force-down) v. Oliakca 3. - Semi-finals. —Ivia Toa A 6 v. Old Boys A 0; United 6 v. Bunnythorpe A 0. Final.—Kia Toa A 5 v. United 0. There was no score in the first five minutes. IviaTca attacked car'y in the gamy, but forceful play and good individual work by United saw the latter team in the ascendancy before tho change-over. Ivia 'loa a,gain resumed the offensive and compelled United to force down, a Kia Toa player just losing the raco for the ball. A few seconds afterwards Newport awa; to score an easy try for Kia Toa, which Hcarscy converted. United were pressing in the concluding stages but could not go over. The winning team was: Dalzoill, Hearsay, Lindsay, Mouldcy, Knig, Richardson, and Newport. THIRD GRADE. First round. —High School A 25 v. Kia Toa B 0; Kia Toa C 6 v. United C 3; Feilding beat Fcilding High School by default; High School G 18 v. Kia loa D 0; Old Boys 10 v. High School B 8; Kia Toa A 17 v. Feilding Old Boys 0; United A 11 v. Kia Toa E 0. . Second round. —High School A 16 v. Ivia Toa C 0; Feilding 11 v. High School C 10; Old Boys 6 v. United B 5; Kia loa A 19 v. United A 0. ' _ , Semi-finals. —High School A 9 v. Fending 0; Ivia Toa. A 14 v. Old Boys 3 Final. —High School 8 v, Ivia Toa 3. A lot - fatt scored an unconverted try early for High School. This was the only score m the first half, for the remainder of which Kia Toa were attacking. In the soQond High School were penalised, Wishnowsky putting over the kick for Kia 9 oa. High School kicked down to the Kia 'loa cornor, where from the line-out the backs ail handled for Mason to score. Vealc converted The game concluded with Kia Toa in the High School twenty-five. Jhe winning team was: Smith, Moffatt. Moynihan, Vcalo, • Mason, Uardic, Poananga.
