RAILWAY TEAMS ENGAGED.
AUCKLAND AND PALAIERSTON DR AAV. Two Rugbv matches were played at the Showgrounds on Saturday, tho games in both cases being friendly one 6, with no trophy at stake. The attendance was small. In the main match teams drawn from Railway Department employees at Auckland and Palmerston North drew, 9-all,, and in the %st game Aliramar (AVellington) beat United by 15 points to 5.
THE RALLWAY AIATCH
Auckland had much the better of the early part of their game with the Palmerston North side in the railway department employees’ match, but in the second spell the home side showed considerably improved form and for a period held the upper hand. The very dry state of the ground militated against hard Rugby, but some of the movements were good, with clean passing. However, the passing movements were not frequent. AlcCready, an Auckland player, promised very well for tho short time lie was playing, a sprained ankle sending him from the field. Kenney, at centre-three quarter for the visitors, did particularly well and Dowling, at second five-eighths, was dangerous. Drumgool, in the forwards, _ was another who worked hard and with effect. In the Palmerston North side Pitch and AlcCallum were the best,
For Auckland Kenney. Dowling and AlcKay were the scorers, Dowling mak-ing-two unsuccessful attempts at conversions and Nerlienv one. Sargisson and Bridges scored tries for Palmerston North and Fitzpatrick kicked a penalty goal. The teams were: Auckland.—C. Fricker. I. Pricker, Kenney, Halsey, Dowling, McKay, Flynn, Rolston, Nerlieny, Cork, Leatliley, AlcCready, Drumgool. Turnbull. Coffey. Miller replaced AlcCready when the latter was injured. Palmerston North—Bailey. Hampton, Fitzpatrick. Hoskings. AlcKenzio, Sargisson. Cook, Birchall, Hobbs, Fitch, O’Co.nnor. Mullet, Shuker, AlcCallum and Bridges. The referee was Air A. Jewett. On Saturday evening tho visitors were entertained at dinner and they returned north last night.
UNITED AND MIRAMAR.
In the match between United and Miramar the visitors had the better of the game, their win by 15 points to 5 being a fair indication of the play. For Afiramar, who 'have won the division championship at Well-'-’ington this season, tries were scored hv Areadc and Cook (2). and Smith kicked a. field goal and Portier converted one try. Luxmooro was the scorer for United and the try was -"onverted hv Alabey. The referee was Air B. Ryder.
