PAHIATUA.

At a meeting of the St. Paul’s Ladies’ Guild, Airs Carrad presided. Thanks were expressed to Airs Ancell for decoiating the church during the past month. It was resolved to send reading material to members on active service. Tho hostesses were Alesdames Thomson and AleCardle.

A ■ fast and open game of Rugby football was played at Pahiatua on Saturday when tho two leading teams in the Kelly Cup competition for the third grade—AJangatainoka and Pahiatua —met, the result being a'win for Pahiatua by 9 points, to nil. T. Paget scored six points and N. Russel! three for Pahiatua. The referee was Air Fisher, Air R. J. Smith presented the trophy to (he winning team. One of the oldest settlers in tho Pahiatua County, Air James Corkill. of Aiakomako, died in a private hospital last week. He had farmed successfully in 1 lie district for more than half a century. Air Corkill leaves throe daughters, Mesdames Johnson (Alangatninoka). Lane and Blair (Hamilton) and four sons. 'Messrs K. and J.. Corkill (Makomako). H. Corkill _ (Wairarapa) and James Corkill. His wife and one son, Air W. Corkill, died before him. Tho funeral took place on Thursday at the Balianco cemetery. The services at the church and at the graveside wore conducted by Rev. W. E. Aloore and the bearers were Alcssrs E.. J. and H. Corkill, G. Atkinson and Johnson (2).
