BUCKLEY CLUB.

PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB. PATRIOTIC FUND BENEFITS. Ideal conditions prevailed on Saturday afternoon when a mixed foursome was held at the Awatapu links in aid of the patriotic fund, with the result the fund will benefit to the extent of £9. Scoring on the whole was poor. About 150 players participated, including visitors from neighbouring clubs. Two Hokowhitu players won the event with a nice card of 76.

The leading scores were: —Mrs E. J. Wills and V. Goldfinch, 91—15—76; Mrs Thorburn and G. Rankin, 96—38 —7B; Miss E. Rutledge and E. J. Wills, 92—32 —80; Mr and Mrs Smith, 89—8—81; Miss Jamieson and S. Toon, 99 —-18 —81; Mr and Mrs B. J. Bell,. 103—22—81.

A bogey match was held on Saturday morning, and some good cards were handed in. A. ML Chapman topped the list, being all square. Ho also won a flag match in the afternoon, taking the flag to the 19th green. He has just returned from camp on leave; Army life seems to-be good for Ids golf. Results of the bogey match areA. W. Chapman, ail square; H. Carpenter, 1 down; E. Astin, 2 down; E Pink, 2 down; J. A. Bell, 3 down.

N. Norris, in the flag match, had three strokes in hand coming off the 18th green, but, findiug a bad lie with his second at tho 19th, lost his chance. He returned a net 70, and should be due for another reduction. .Tho B grade in the flag match was won by W. Woodley, who just played to.his handicap. One of the highlights of the weekend was an unofficial round of 09 by F. W. Ward. This player is a powerful golfer, and hits a long and accurate ball off the tee. A strong feature of this 69 was long and straight driving and accurate_putting. His card read: — Out: 544244 3 6 2—34. In :4 4 4. 3 5 4 3 4 4 —35. His form recently has been very consistent and liis chances are very bright for the championship.

The September medal competition played at the Buckley Golf Club (Shannon) at the week-end was won by C. Young. A combined fourball Stablcford competition was won by D. G. Leng-Ward and H. Stern on the count back from V. Pope and C. Stern, with 73 points. The following championship games have been played:—Senior: N. Mabey beat F. Picard, J. Mabey beat H. Stern, E. T. Wilson, beat A. L. Edwards, C. Stern beat D. Hill. Junior: I>. Leng-Ward beat R. Graham, H. Mabey beat E. Murrow, A. McSweeney beat V. Pope.
