DANNEVIRKE.

The occupation of the Dannevirke A. and P. Showgrounds as a temporary military camp will not affect the holding of the association’s 1941 show.

Preliminary arrangements for the organisation of the Home Guard in Dannevirke were made on Friday by the newly-ap-pointed committee. The Mayor, Mr Gibbard, presided over Messrs H. C. E. Cammock and D. L. Crooks (Dannevirke County Council), M. D. Smith (Returned Soldiers’ Association), K. Mathcson (Weber County Council), S. McNabb (employers), and D. Meek (workers’ organisations). Mr Smith was elected chairman. The committee’s area was fixed to include Dannevirke borough, Dannevirke county and Weber county. The Dannevirke Returned Soldiers’ Association wrote offering to organise the Horne Guard in the district under the committee’s autliority. It. was decided to accept the association’s offer and to ask the R.S.A. executive to take charge of enrolments and assist in the organisation as a subcommittee of the Home Guard Committee. Mr D. L. Crooks was appointed secretary.
