PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.

GENERAL EXECUTIVE. The Mayoress (Mrs A. E. Alansford) presided over a meeting of the general executive of the Manawatu Women’s Patriotic Committee, other members present being Mesdames F. C. Barnett (representing the patriotic shop), M. Manning (wool committee), S. G. Northey (parcels branch) and G. C. Petersen LLady Galway Guild). An apology for absence was received from Mrs N. V. Ballinger Mi's Mansford welcomed Mrs Petersen to the general executive and expressed the hope that her association with it would bo a happy one. Mrs Petersen suitably replied. The resignation of the general secretary (Mrs I). Pegden) was accepted with regret. Mrs Mansford paid a tribute to the work which Mrs Pegden had done in her position as secretarytreasurer. while Mrs Barnett also spoke, on behalf of the shop committee, of the way in which she had assisted in shop matters. On behalf of the parcels branch, Mrs Northey also eulogised Mrs Pegden’s good work in that direction. Mrs W H. Galbraith offered her services as general secre-tary-treasurer, on the retirement of Mrs Pegden. her offer being accepted by the committee Mrs R. McMurray accepted the position of minute ■ secretary to the shop, committee.
