SUBSTANTIAL FINE.

BREACH OF OIL REGULATIONS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Sept. 03. Fines totalling £6O were imposed by the Magistrate (Mr F. H. Levien) in the Police Court, to-day, on Frank Stanley Thompson, the proprietor ot a service station in Kbyber Pass, for two breaches of the oil fuel restrictions. Defendant pleaded guilty. The police stated that between May and August there were shortages of 1100 gallons as compared with the coupons and licenses in Thompson s possession. He had reported to detectives that petrol had been stolen, but after inquiries were made said it had probably been sold. Defending counsel said Thompson had been muddled in the figures. He was now employing an accountant. The Magistrate said there was no possible excuse. Thompson to have been '‘making a welter of it,.’. Defendant was fined £3-5 on one charge and £25 on the other.
