PAPATAWA.

At . the monthly meeting of the Papatawa Women’s Institute, Mrs L. E. Gleadow presiding, Mrs Hutchinson was enrolled as a member. Tlie federation secretary forwarded a request for support of a scheme to make a gift of eggs to people in the Homeland. Arrangements were made for co-operating in tlie preparation of parcels for soldicie. Preparations for promoting a concert and dance to celebrate the institute’s anniversary were also made. Mesdames A. S. Davies and A. E. Dickens were appointed de.cgatcs to attend a meeting at Dannpvirke to discuss the division of the Southern Hawke’s Bay .Federation. They were also appointed to attend a council meeting at Takapau. Mrs N. M. Burnett entertained members with an interesting description of her tour of the British Isles and the Continent, the address being, illustrated by' a collection of travel photographs. Mrs Burnett was accorded thanks. Senior and junior sections engaged in thrift article competitions, these being won by Mrs P. Parker and Miss Mavis Goldsworthy, respectively. The commencement of the second series of patriotic euchre tournaments took place in Papatawa Hall, when there was good natronage. Mrs A. Hancock and Mr W. Piric won first prizes, consolation prizes being awarded to Miss Bullcn and Mr R. Bradley. The sale of flowers donated by Mrs F. McLean gave further aid to the funds.
