PAHIATUA.
The monthly meeting of tho Pahiatua Borough Council was held on Monday evening, the Mayor (Mr S. Iv. Siddells) presiding. The Post and Telegraph Department notified that it would shift telegraph poles, if necessary, where new footpath work was being carried out by the council. It was decided that further representations bo made to the Minister of Transport to have Mr A. W. Hamilton, tho acting-clerk, appointed motor-vehicle testing officer in the .absence of Mr L. D. Lovelock. It was decided to carry out tho tarring of Main Street from the Council Chambers to the police station. The treasurer’s report showed that to date £677 of the rates had been received. It was resolved that the council proceed with the raising of a loan of £BOO for streets and footpaths.
The Pahiatua Rod Cross Society has received donations from Mrs Lynch. Mrs \V. Fulton, Makuri Institute, Mrs MacKay, Miss Iv. P. Nelson, Rodgers, Gibson McDonald Tattle, E. L.. Harvey, Miss Mackie, Mrs Bremner, and Mrs Booth. •••••'.

Rev. L. B. Neale, 8.A., F.R.G.S., of Dunedin, .President of the Methodist Conference of New Zealand, was extended a welcome to Pahiatua at a . gathering on Monday evening by the Mayor (Mr S. K. Siddells), on behalf of the citizens. and" Rev. Button, on behalf of the Pahiatua Ministers’ Association. The visitor was introduced to those present by Rev. W. F; Moore, who explained the purpose of the president’s visit in relation to the Methodist Centennial. thanksgiving. Mr Neale at tho conclusion of an address made a fervent appeal for realism in religion among the people the text of the address being contained in a Press Association message published yesterday.
