OUTSTANDING CONCERT.
Many prominent artists will contribute lo the concert to be given for patriotio funds in tho Opera House on Saturday night, and excellent fare is promised. The concert is being arranged by the Palmerston North commercial travellers and will contain much that is novel in the way of entertainment.- Among the performers are many who arc already wellknown locally for their versatility and tho high standard of their performances. These include the popular entertainers, the Iluia Straight , Eight; whose items will bo among the chief features of the evening. Miss M. Penketh, a successful entrant at the Wellington competitions, will present items of a high standard; amusing imitations will be given by Mr J. Pizzcy (George Forniby) and Mr A. Christian (Sandy Powell). Mr Christian is a popular Wellington artist. Another interesting performer is Mr.D. Lunney, a .well-known, radio vocalist in the Auckland district, who is now a member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. “Amos and Robbie” are well-known local entertainers whoso presentations will add to (he humour of the programme, and two pleasing vocalists in Mrs N. C. Holland (soprano) and Mr W. B. Tennent (bass baritone) will bo heard. Popular xylophone presentations will be given by Mr C. Bell.: Low’admission prices will be the rule, the charges being only 2s (including booking), and Is 6d for the pit. ■ Another feature of the programme will be the drawing of tho art union conducted’by-the commercial travellers. This will be carried out'as a tableau, in which pupils of Miss’June Scotl. assisted by the Navy, Army and Air Forco, will take part, and the drawing of the prizes will recall the ceremony surrounding Hie drawings of the Irish sweepstake lotteries, on which the present tableau will be based. The orchestra assisting the programme will be a strong combination, conducted by Mr J. Wingate. The concert is already attracting ■ much interest and patrons can be assured of a full, evening of entertainment The box plan is now open at Collinson and Cunningliame’s. .j
