GOLDEN WEDDING
MR, AND MRS W, J. COCK
To mark the golden anniversary of their marriage, Mr and Mrs AV. J. Cook, of AVeliington Street, Feilding, invited tlieir many friends to share with them in a thanksgiving service in the Methodist Church recently, ltev. AV. T. Blight conducted the service, and Mr H. Crump presided at the organ. Mr and Mrs Cock were married at AVillinga (South Australia) and after 12 months they,-caine to New Zealand and lived for some years in the Manawatu. Since 1917 they have resided in Feilding, where they have won for themselves the affectionate esteem of a wide circle of friends.
Members of the family present to offer felicitations on the occasion of the golden anniversary were Mesdames A. A\ r . Geange (Feilding), H. Gratehell (Dannevirke), A. J. Mills (Eltham), FJarret (Feilding), Messrs Harry (Feilding) and A 7 erge (Palmerston North). Mrs G. McMillan (AVeliington) and Mr Claude Cock (Hamilton) were unable to be present. There are 34 grandchildren. The bridesmaid (Mrs Cock’s sister) and her husband, who was best man, are still living in Australia. In a moving address at the thanksgiving service, Mr Blight said Mr and Mrs Cock had carried out the real ideals of marriage. They had had the glory of home-making and of seeing their children grow up around them, which had brought a rich satisfaction. This was only possible because the foundation of their union was laid on Christian fellowship. Hymns of thanksgiving and as a pledge to the : future were sung, and the “Hallelujah ! Chorus” was played. After the service the guests repaired to the. Sunday school hall, where a happy afternoon was spent. Mr and Mrs Cock received their guests in the porch.-The bride of fifty years ago, who was wearing a black satin frock handsomely trimmed with black lace over gold, with black and gold hat, was presented with a golden horseshoe by her granddaughter, Joy Jarret. She carried a posy of gold toned flowers. Congratulations were offered by Mr Blight and Mrs Darragh on behalf of the women of the church. Mr D. Prince spoke of his deep friendship with the'couple over 44 years and Mr and Mrs Cock returned thanks. Pleasure was given to the company by Mr C. AG Guy and Ngaire Cock with vocal solos, Mr and Mrs H. Prince contributing piano-ac-cordion duets, also novelty vocal and piano duets, and Mr A 7 erge' Cock wao heard in mouth organ solos. Afternoon tea at tables artistically arranged with gold coloured cloths and adorned with golden polyanthus provided a merry interlude. Holding pride of place was a handsome two-tiered cake iced in pale gold and beautifully decorated by Mrs Cock. During the ceremony of cutting the cake musical honours and cheers were accorded Mr and Mrs Cock.., Guests had come from New Plymouth, Eltham, Palmerston North, AVelington and Apiti as well as X* eliding and surrounding districts to share in this happy celebration, and among the congratulatory messages received i was one from the Mayor of Feilding (Mr T. L. Seddon).
