MANCHESTER ST. SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Manihcster Street School Committee was held last evening, Mr Z. McLeod presiding. Also present were Mesdames S. McDowall (secretary), P. G. Guy, Messrs A. Matthews, P. Maegaard, J. ■ Campbell and the headmaster (Mr F. Gaze). The Wanganui Education Board advised that frames for protecting louvres at the school had been ordered and also two bubble fountains for drinking purposes. In connection with the flower day conducted for jmtriotic purposes by the pupils, the chairman said that he was pleased with the manner in which they carried out the work. Mr Gaze said that the flower day was most successful and the money raised totalled £2O. Of that amount £ls was.paid to Provincial Patriotic Fund and the balance allocated to the local Christmas parcels fund. Members of the committee agreed that the effort was a laudable one and the children were congratulated upon their enterprise. Mr Maegaard referred to the need for additional bicycle racks, and it was decided that the headmaster ascertain the total number required. It is proposed to approach the board for permission to erect them. Mr Gaze, in his report, stated that the roll stood at 369 and the attendance during the month had been very good. Annual inspections had been made by Messrs Blake, Merringtnn and Crosby. Their reports would be available later and the headmaster anticipated that they would reveal the satisfaction of the inspectors. It was also reported by Mr Gaze that the trees planted on Arbor Day were making progress, with the exception of one or two. which had not survived.
