AFRIKANDER’S HORROR. LONDON, May 24. Wliite-haired Dr. H. D. van Broekhuizen, the South African Minister at The Hague, who fought against the British with' General Hertzog in the Boer War, and has since been associated with Dr. Malan’s Republican Party, has reached London from Holland converted from his anti-Brit-ish convictions. Dr. van Broekhuizen witnessed, the terrible ' scenes and indiscriminate bombings of open towns in Holland and Belgium, and the ruthless bombing and machine-gunning of pitiful refugee processions, dragging their footsteps on the roads to France. His eyes filling with tears, Dr. van Broekhuizen said: “I am now 100 per cent. anti-German. The invasion of Holland and Belgium was an unforgivable act, bringing untold suffering. Even when I participated in native wars in South Africa, I never experienced such horrors and barbarity. 1 was appalled to see Germans living in Holland rise up and tear the country to bits at the, Nazi sigpal.” In as much as Dr. van Broekhuizen was formerly a pastor of the Dutch Reformed Church, his views are calculated strongly to influence the conservative section of strict Afrikanders who were bold enough to whitewash Hitler’s methods. Dr. van Broekhuizen is appealing to the Prime Minister (General Smuts) to open funds . to assist Dutch and Belgian refugees. I
