POHANGINA INSTITUTE.

At the June meeting of the Pohangina Women’s Institute Mrs J. Moar i presided. Apologies for absence were I received from Mrs ,R. Culling and Miss R. Roberts. The m'otto for the month was, “He is the happiest, be he king or peasant, who finds peace in liis home.’’ A letter was read from the Link Institute at Laycock, Wiltshire, England. Mrs Biddleeombe volunteered to reply to it. She also to pack six parcels for soldiers overseas. Mrs J. Moar, who had been chosen as delegate to the conference to be held in Wellington, decided to forgo that privilege and the money that would have been spent is to be donated to the patriotic fund of the instfi tute. Her decision met with unanimous approval. All members took part in the competition for the best balaclava. The work was of such a high order that it weis difficult to differentiate and so prizes were not awarded. Members of the knitting circle brought in their finished work, which has been dispatched to Christchurch. A. further suppjy of wool from Feilding has been distributed among members. Those not engaged in knitting will make liussifs. A pleasing, feature ,of the afternoon was a fashion parade, the period being from the time of Queen Victoria to the present day Thanks arc due to Messrs C. M. Ross and Co., who lent the beautiful dresses worn. Those taking part were Mesdames Paul, Moar, Drummond. Tews, Wagstaff, Shadbolt, and the Misses Sinclair, Howell, Harland and Maddison. The bring and buy stall in the charge of Miss C. Balmer was loaded with produce of all kinds and a substantial sum was raised which will considerably augment the patriotic fund. Members were reminded that tho stall is to be a' monthly institution.
