OLD BOYS BEAT AIRMEN.

WINNERS’ GOOD FORM. • Old Boys had a good win over Air Force in the curtain-raiser on the main ground at the Showgrounds, the final score being 14—9. Old Bpys showed good -form and established an early supremacy which Air Force never threatened. The teams were: Old Boys.—Clarke, Reid, Howell, Buick, - fehand, Lang, Scott, George Annear, Lewin, Kay, Geoffrey Annear, O’Dea, Fell, Cutler. Air Force. —Younghusband, Steele, Black, Rowland, Sargisson, Sherlock, Dewe, Mason, Perry, Rose, Knight, Trotter, Drummond, Horgan, Spence. Old Boys maintained early pressure and their first score came from a penalty kick which Clarke put over. Air Force had a chance when Knight broke away in a dribbling rush. He passed the full-back, but in the race to touch down the ball went into the dead-ball area. Old Boys went to the

Air Force line and after a line-out the ball went out to Lang, who scored an unconverted try in s the corner. Another minute saw a further score, Shand falling on the ball after it had been toed over the line, and half-time came with Old Boys leading by 11 points to nil. There was a long period of midfield play from the start of the second half. The Air Force forwards figured in a dribbling rush which took the ball near the Old Boys line, and from a scrum on the sideline Dewe passed out to Sherlock, who kicked a beautiful field goal. Air Force scored again in a few minutes, Spence breaking away and handing on to Horgan, who passed, in for Knight to score easily. Horgan converted. For the rest of the game Old Boys kept up a strong pressure. Just on the call of time a penalty was given Old Boys for offside, and Clarke, kicking from wide out, succeeded. The game ended with the 6core: Old Boys .14, Air Force 9. Mr C. Lgimton was the referee.
