SUCCESS OF FEILDING OLD BOYS B.y n converted try to an unconverted one, Feilding Old Boys beat St. Patrick’s in a game which' was played to suit the heavy state of the ground, the forwards predominating. The teams were: Feilding Old Boys.—Gloyn, Smith, Waugh, Harford, Black, Swinburne, Jarrett, Wells, Rutherford, McLeod, Shaw, Waldegrave, Nicholson, Eade, Raven. St. Patrick’s.—Stuart, P. Fitzpatrick, Cuff, Simmonds, Gillespie, Hehir ; Edlin, T. Fitzpatrick, Madgwick, Whiteman, Shuker, Powell, Ross, O’Connor, Webb. Early in the match Waugh and Powell had 6hots at goal for the respective sides for infringements, but both were unsuccessful. Eade intercepted a pass from Edlin to run about 30 yards before he was tackled short of liis Objective. A change of direction by Waugh, who transferred play to the other end of the field, saw Harford score, but in doing so lie knocked the corner flag over and the try was disallowed. The black backs made many desperate efforts to open their account, but solid tackling by .Hehir and Cuff saved for the defenders on numerous occasions. From a weak clearing kick by one of the St. Patrick’s backs, Smith fielded the ball to run through the green forwards and score unopposed. Gloyn added the extra points. For the remainder of the spell the Feilding Old Boys forwards kept the home side defending hard. In the second half Cuff missed a penalty goal from an easy position. Waldegrave and Rutherford went away in a forward movement which carried play to the ether end of, the field, only to be returned through the excellent kicking of Cuff. From a melee on the visitors’ line P. Fitzpatrick dived over for a try, which was not 'converted: In the closing stages St. Patrick’s made many efforts to further augment their score, hut their efforts were fruitless. The final score was: — / Feilding Old Boys 5, St. Patrick’s 3. Mr A. Weston refereed.
