A CONVINCING WIN. Kia Toa left no doubt about their defeat of United by 11 points to nil, the winners’ score being made np from two tries (one converted) and a penalty goal. The teams were : United. —Mabey, Hyde, Campbell, Alsop, Ryder, Hill, Bradley, Luxmoore, Adamson, Dustin, Robertson, Ward, Rowlands, Bike, Arnott. Kia Toa.—Carr, Stenberg, Pitt, Leader, Quinn, Thomas, Parris, Barnao, Thurston, Speedy, Whyte, Williams, Coombe, IVa6ley, Judd. Kia Toa attacked at the outset and pressed hard until Dustin, breaking back, ran into a pass in the Kia Toa backs. Ho struck the ball to the ground with his arms and Carr put over, the resulting penalty kick. United made a sally into Kia Toa territory, but Thomas broke away fa6t in a dribbling rush and followed a kick through to score. - Carr converted. United put'Kia Toa in their twentyfive yards area for an eventual force down. United opened the second half better than the first, but were soon back in their own half. 'Leader had a relatively open run in from the 20-yards line, the ball going out of play. Barnao was \ sent off at this stage by the referee. Carr’s kicking was responsible for maintaining the Kia Toa pressure when the latter’s heavier forwards pushed the play back to the United twenty-five. Ryder suffered an injury to a ' leg and L. Findlay went on. Kia Toa had a grand opportunity again when Mabey landed the ball in front of Leader, but the latter did not gather in the greasy ball and knocked on. Then Ward was ordered off the field. A penalty kick to United relieved the pressure on their line. Quinn broke away and United forced, and from the drop-out they steadily developed an attack, this leading to a force by Kia Toa. Just on time, Parris whipped round a scrum at the United line and passed to Leader, who scored, after the opposing three-quarter had come in. Carr’s kick failed, the distance being too great. The final score was: Kia Toa 11, United 0. Mr R. Young was the referee.
