OUR PRAYERS ANSWERED.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Last Sunday week, His Majesty King George called the British Empire to a day of prayer. At that time we know the Allied forces in Belgium and France were in grave danger. This was emphasised by the British Prime Minister (Mr Winston Churchill), who told us to he prepared for very grave news. Surely, sir, the evacuation of four-fifths of the B.E.F. constitutes not s only a brilliant naval and military performance'under most trying and nerve-wracking conditions, hut to those who believe that' right is might that our prayers have been directly answered. . If otherwise, then with the German superiority in men and munitions in that quarter, the Allied forces should have been compelled to surrender, even after due allowance is made lor the valour and tenacity displayed hv our brave British and French soldiers, and our magnificent Air Force and Navy. This, then, is the answer to our day of prayer, and surely, sir, it is fitting that the churches in New Zealand should call for another day of prayer, in order to humbly give our thanks to the One Above Who has answered our petitions. We .could not do better than ask that other nations be restrained from making war on the Allies. ’ Trusting the churches will lead the way by immediate response to the undoubted duty of all believers in prayer to give liumble thanks and praise to the Almighty 1‘ ather.—l am, etC '’ 'BELIEVER IN PRAYER.
