CALL TO PRAYER.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—What a splendid respdnse to our King’s appeal last Sunday week, when all the churches were packed to their fullest capacity, and the united voice of the, peoples lifted in supplication and prayer must have stirred our Heavenly Father. But don’t you think He must have been disappointed on Sunday when the congregations dropped again. Surely our earthly King does not have to keep reminding us to keep up our attendance at church or that our prayers are urgently needed. Aren’t we intelligent enough to know this? Have not people enough feeling, if nothing else,' to wish to pray that our brave boys will he given courageand strength to do their duty, and that God will see fit to send them safely home again? Realising wliat other countries have suffered, and are suffering, and how our people at Home are experiencing such anxious times, while we, all these miles away, are living'in comfort and comparative safety, we must feel that the one big way in which we may help is to pray. It is helpful to know that manv do" this in their homes and others “listen in,” but we must join together. It is unity that counts in this as in all things, ■ and we must realise that if we all wait to “listen in” only the churches will soon become empty and then where will the Sunday service broadcast he? Have we learned our lesson or do we need further teaching? Dp we deserve peace? God rules the world and He alone can give peace. I would, remind readers that “more things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.”—l an), etc.. . UNITY. Palmerston North, 3/6/40.
