PAHIATUA.

RED CROSS APPEAL. There were a large number present at a public meeting held last night in connection with the Red Cross Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund Appeal. During the meeting £350 was subscribed. The matter of a change of policy was introduced by the Mayor (Mr S. K. Siddells), who suggested the introduction of an annual quota for each person in the district to cover all appeals during the year. From the sum collected (£4OOO was a proposed figure) amounts could be allocated for each appeal. Mr Siddells proposed that the quota system be controlled by a small executive, replacing the hastily-formed Pahiatna Patriotic Society. He had consulted with the secretary of* the National Patriotic Fund Board (Mr G. A. Hayden), ’ who had told him that although there was no legal authority for the annual quota scheme, this had been introduced in Otago, and was w'nrking well. After a discussion it was decided to carry on with the appeal as originally arranged. A new committee elected to handle the Rod Gross Appeal is made up of Messrs Siddells (chairman), J. Hutton (secretary), W. H. Watson, G. E. Vincent, A W. Bisscf, R. J. Carruthcrs, and Dr H. Paterson. This committee is only a new business executive, and the old collecting organisation will not bo altered. A vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Sturton for their energy and interest in past appeals was carried. s' The following are the latest donations to the appeal:—Previously acknowledged. £3O; Mr and Mrs J. E. Hewitt, Mrs W. E. C. Tylee, Mrs A. Joseph, Mrs C. F. Gardner and family. Miss St. G’air Inglis, each £SO; Mr and Mrs E. L. Harvey. Mr and- Mrs Lynch, £25; Mr and Mrs A. G. Marsh, £ls; Mr and Mrs G. G. Taylor, £10; Mr J. Y. Crawford, £6: Mr and Mrs IT. C. Marsh, £5 ss; Mr and Mrs Siddells, £5.
