A RECIPE.

APPLE CASSEBOLE. Peel, core, and cut G apples into thick slices about quarter inch. Spread with marmalade and pile up into a dome shape in a fireproof tart plate or casserole dish, previously buttered and sprinkled with a generous amount of fine cake-crumbs. Mix teaspoon ground cinnamon with 1 cup stale cake-crumbs, and 1 teaspoon sugar. Beat the whites of 2 eggs until stiff, then gradually add 2oz sugar. Add prepared crumbs and cover the apples. Sprinkle with sugar and bake in a slow oven until apples are cooked, about 45 minutes. Serve at once.

To suggest an apron, the front of a two-blue wool frock is a paler shade of blue than the back. It is warm and simple and lovely under a fur coat. A delicate pink chiffon frock is strikingly embroidered with huge deep red flowers, and has a cape draped like a shawl that hides very bare shoulders.

RACEGOERS AT AWAPUNI. TWEEDS AND FURS WORN. As the day wore on, at the Awapuni racecourse, yesterday, the crowd on the lawn steadily grew. There was a sprinkling -of visitors from other centres and they vied in smartness with local racegoers. Tweed or wool suits were the most popular wear, and in most cases were accompanied by fur coats, capes or stoles. Both Angora and tweed were favoured as alternatives to fur for top coats, some being worn over light wool or silk frocks. Hats were nearly all of felt, but varied widely in shape from tiny skull caps, berets and till bans to sailor hats and tall crowns. Ribbon bows trimmed most of them, though there were a number with flowers and a few with feather mounts and veils.
