RUSH TO COLOURS.

MELBOURNE RECRUITING. MELBOURNE, May 15. Events abroad have caused a rush of enlistments at Melbourne recruiting depots. Before the invasion of the Lowlands applicants ranged from 150 to 300 daily. On Monday the figures jumped to 850 on Tuesday. 1000, and by noon to-day to 4000. The extension of the age limit to 40 years is another cause. Large numbers of the militia are also transferring to the A.I.F. The men are being rapidly examined and most will be in camp within a few days. At the present rate Victoria's quota of 5000 for the Seventh Division is quickly filling. The Labour leader (Mr Curtin) declared in the House of Representatives to-day that he was entirely satisfied with the Government's war effort and saw no need for a change.
