APPEAL FOR FUNDS. LOCAL LIST GEOWING. Unimpeded by official restrictions, the Order of St. John and the Red Gross can provide the extra requisites and comforts for the sick and wounded with efficiency and rapidity. Recognised as authoritative channels, these organisations are the true source of service through which public help and generosity can flow, states the Palmerston North committee organising the local appeal. Christensen is in charge of the distribution and collection of these important lists. KAIRANGA COUNTY. CANVASSERS APPOINTED. Mr J. C. Young presided at a meeting held in the Kairanga County Council board room, yesterday, for the purpose of arranging a canvass of the county. Those present included Messrs G. Tremaine (deputy-Mayor), W. G. Black, J. Batclielar, P. G. Mildon, W. 11. Hopcroft, R. Bennett, N- P. Nielsen, E. W. Croucher, R. G. Moore, J. J. Hume, C. R. Best. Mr Young explained the of the appeal and stated that the JKairanga County and Palmerston North had been merged into one block. The appeal would conclude on Saturday, May 25. Mr Tremaine said that there were to he lour appeals made this year. During the last war the Red Cross spent about £4OC9 a. week in comforts, continued the speaker, and the society also provided additional ambulances. “If hostilities end before the money is expended, then it will be used to rehabilitate the men as they come home,” concluded Mr Tremaine.
