HOSPITAL LEVY.

KAIRANGA COUNCIL’S REDUCTION. The reduction in the hospital levy this year may mean a reduction in the hospital rate of the Kairanga County Council, according to figures presented at a meeting of the council to-day The Palmerston North Hospital Board advised that the levy on the council for the current financial year would be £6193 7s sd. against £6454 8s Hd last year. The clerk (Mr N. I Nielsen) explained that, as rates had been strueir last vear to provide for an increase in the hospital levy' the council had a credit in this fund of £475. so that it would need to provide only aboin £5717 in rates this year. This meant a reduction of about £llOO on. the amount levied last year, aid this could be met with a 10 per cent, reduction in the hospital rate. It was decided to take this into consideration when framing the estimates.
