MISCELLANEOUS CASES. Mr H. P. La wry, S.M., pr-sided at a meeting of the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. James William Johnston, aged 52, was fined £2 for a breach of his prohibition order and £1 (with 8s 4d costs) for being found drunk in a public place. Two charges of driving ill a manner which might have been dangerous to the public were preferred against A. J. Fraser, who pleaded guilty through his solicitor (Mr A. M. Ongley). Sen-ior-Sergeant Mclntyre explained that both charges referred to a journey from the Woodville races to Palmerston North. Mr Ongley said defendant admitted he drove too fast, but had a record of 14 years of accident-free driving. Defendant was fined £4 on one charge and £3 on the other. The costs totalled £1 19s. G. H. Blanche entered a plea of guilty to a charge of driving without due care and attention. A fine of £2 was imposed, with 10s costs. T. P. Davis was fined £2 and £1 3s costs for not giving way to traffic on the right. It. Webb was fined £2, with 12s costs, for a similar offence. For driving at a speed which might have been dangerous to the public, H. J. Nieper was filled £2, with 10s costs. Entering pleas of guilty to a charge of taking liquor into a military camp, W. R. Jeffree was fined £2, with 11s costs. Senior-Sergeant Mclntyre said defendant had two bottles of beer in his pockets when bo was in the Maori Battalion’s camp on Anzac Day. - Defendant said lie was taking the liquor home after having collected it from a friend. He did not know he was committing an offence. H. C. Me After pleaded guilty to a charge of driving without due care and attention and was fined £1 and costs 10s. W. E. Brown (Mr J. A. Grant) laid an information for assault against A. H. L. Dunn (Mr Ongley) and asked that defendant he bound over to keep the peace. Defendant was fined £2 and ordered to pay costs, £2 2s. In addition lie was required to enter into a bond for £SO, with a surety for a like amount, to keep the peace.
