POWER BOARD
SALES OF CURRENT INCREASE. At the meeting of the ManawatuOroua Power Board, field yesterday, those present were Messrs J. Boyce (chairman.), J- A. Nash, M. A. Eliott, J. Hodgens, M.P., L. Hogg, C. G. G. Dermer, W. G. Shannon, W. P. Bickers, P. G. Guy, J. H. Mason, N. Campbell and W. McKay. The monthly statement of accounts showed that the total sales for the month amounted to £663 18s Id, and the total collections to £573 9s, the amount outstanding being £5442 10b 2d. Sales of current for April amounted to £21,429, compared with £lB *241 in April last year, an increase of £3IS7 8s lid. There was a bank balance of £6496 18s lOd in the power fund account, and of £6773 10s 4d in the loan account. '
The Mount Stewart Memorial Committee wrote accepting the board’s offer to floodlight the memorial at a cost of 5s a year for 10 years. The Manawatu and West Coast Dairy Companies’ Association wrote asking the board to go into the question of reducing the charges for power on industrial motors. The letter was referred to tbe executive committee. The Power Boards’ Association advised that its next conference would be held on July 4 and 5. Messrs Boyce and Nash were appointed the board’s delegates. The chief engineer (Mr W. A. Waters') and the managing-secretary (Mr K. W. Eglinton) were -granted permission to attend the engineers’ and secretaries’ conferences, respectively. On the mot'on of Mr Eliott it was decided that- the delegates be instructed to support fully a remit to come before the conference that members of tbe board l>e insured while on the board’s business. A remit for tbe .conference, agreed to on the proposal of Mr Eliott, was as follows: “That in all cases of application to the Import Control Commission for permits for supplies, the committee should confer with an officer of the association.” The Palmerston North District Free Ambulance wrote applying for a grant. A donation of £2 2s was made. On the request of the Taihape Borough Council it was decided to permit the board’s engineer to report on the direct current supply to the town of Taihape. Circulars from the Power Boards’ Association advised that, power hoards must apply to the Price Fixation Tribunal before making any increases to their prices, and that permission had been giren to import 20C0 electric rai'i-es. The engineer (Air W. A. Wafers) in the course of his report, stated that supply was given to the following new consumers during Ap r il. Lighting and heating, 8: ranees. 7; water heaters, 9 : motors for milking, 4 ; oth°" motors, 13: industrial motors. 11; additions to existing installations. 55: total, 107.
