PERSONAL. PAHIATUA, May 13. Mr A. Jonos, of Wigram areodrome, who has been visiting liis parents in Pahiatua, has returned to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Is. Haas, of Mangamutu, have recently had as their guests Rev. A. Astor, of Auckland, and bis wife. Miss I. N. Hopkins, of Makairo, has loft to take up a position in Palmerston North. PATRIOTIC SOCIETY. At a meeting of the executive of the Pahiatua Patriotic Society, the organisation of the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund was discussed and a decision was made to push on vigorously with tbo local effort.' Reporting cn the Salvation Army and Y.M.C.A. appeal, the secretary' - stated that the chairman, treasurer and secretary had remitted by bank draft £406 19s to the headquarters at Wellington, to whom local subscribers’ had 'sent direct a further £lO. The appeal was thus considered satisfactory. Arrangements arc being completed in co-operation with the local Rod Cross circle, who for some time have boon working hard on comforts for the troops. Knitting and sewing activity has already enabled them to send forward balaclavas, gloves, pyjamas, liussifs, etc.
