MARTON, May 11. Corporal C. S. Stewart has returned to Trentham, after spending leave in Marton. Mrs H. Perston has returned to Gisborne after visiting her sister, Mrs J. Oldfield. At the Marton Ladies’ Golf Club the best card handed in in conjunction' with the Aotea-roa Cup and Coronation medal play was Mrs Sladden’s, 99—23 76. The, best cards handed in at the Ilawkestone Ladies’ Golf Club were: Mrs Fogelberg, 117 —36—81; Miss Strawbridge. 117-32-85; Miss V. Hunt, 112 —3l—Bl.
Playing hockey at Marton Park on Saturday, United A boat United B by 7 goals to 2. Goals wore scored by Mrs Hammond (3), Mrs Kidson (3), and Miss D. Field. For United B, goals scored were by Misses J. Preece and B. Dales. Messrs A. Gracie and , \V. G. Ailken controlled the game. In their match against Iluntervillc' Kia Ora won by 10 goals to 1. Messrs A. Gracie and -W. 11. Coles acted as umpires. The basketball season .opened-in Marton on Saturday two matches being played on the school ground. In , their match against Athletic Broadway won by 11 to 5. The Marton A v. Rongotea match resulted in a win for Rongotea. the score being 11 goals to 5. Marton B team journeyed to Bulls, the; visitors defeating • Bulls by. 16 to 9.
In a Rugby football match played '. at Marton on Saturday, thcV lluntcrville senior team boat Old Boys by 12 points to 6. For Ilunterville D. Hammond scored a try. M. Bartleet converted another try and J. Hlston kicked,,a field goal. D. Comrie scored a try for Old Boys and C. Calkin kicked a penalty goal. In.the third grade game between Old Boys and High School, the former won by 14 points to 3. .For High' School, V. Stantiall scored a penalty, goal.
