MRS J. M. MAGNUSSON.

Mrs- Jakobine . Marie Magnusson, widow of Mr Julius Emil Magnusson. who died at Palmerston North on May 1, at tlic age of 84 years, was born in Lnrvig. Norway, in 1855. She went to Queensland, where she settled for a few years, and in 1878 she was married and came to New Zealand, settling in Fitzherbert Avenue, i Palmerston North. Mr Magnusson .was [ one of the first settlers to buy a sec-1 tion and have a house built, and | this house is still a landmark. Miami Mrs Magnusson later bought a farm at Fitzherbert, which they subsequently sold, . buying another at James’s Line, Stoney Creek. Further moves were to the Bunnvthorpe-Stoney Creek Road and to a farmlet on Boundary Road, where for a number of years Mr Magnusson carried on a business •as a carrier. Still later, Air ai Mrs Magnusson moved into the city, their last home being in David Street. Mr Magnusson was also a contractor, in the early days, for road construction work in Palmerston North.

A daughter, Miss Julia Magnusson, predeceased Mr . and Mrs Magnusson and also a son, Lieutenant Oscar Magnusson, who was killed in action, in the Great AVar. There are left to mourn their loss, three daughters— Mrs Sutherland (AVanganui), Miss Magnusson (Palmerston North) and Mrs Biggs (AVcilington). There are also four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
