PALMERSTON NORTH v. BUCKLEY The first inter-club . match of the present season for members of the Palmerston North Golf Club was played at Awatapu at the week-end against the Buckley (Shannon) Club. The local side won decisively by 11 matches to 3 in the singles and 9 matches to none in the four-ball. The Awatapu links were very heavy, and there was no “run” on the ball. . During the week-end numerous excellent cards, were handed in by .lowhandicao players of the Palmerston North Club. The best effort was a 77 by F. W. Ward, who has a handicap of 6. He recorded two birdies, one at the second hole and the other at the third. His card read:—Out: 5344 45 4 5 3—37 In: 4 5 5 4 5 4 4 5 4 —40 ■■' 77 His brother, C. R. Ward, was rountl in 78, which was two strokes below h’is handicap. He was out in 38 and home in 40. J. M. Ramsay and .T. SJabey (Shannon) were eacli round in 83; in the morning, recording 42 on the outward journey and 41 on the homeward. However, in the afternoon round Mabey recorded a gross 79. A GOOD ROUND. W. W. SMITH'S EFFORT. A gross score of 74 under the conditions which prevailed on Saturday was the excellent effort of W. 'W. Smith, one of the low-handicap players of the Manawatu Club. He gave a fine exhibition throughout, driving well from the tees.
