WOODVILLE & DISTRICT
MISSIONARY AUXILIARY. The Methodist Women’s Missionary Auxiliary held a successful rally in the Methodist Church, Woodville, last week, when delegates were present from Feilding, Palmerston North, Eketahuna and Pahiatua: The morning session, at which there were present between 50 and 60 ladies, was opened with devotional exercises led by the Woodville president (Miss Harding), who afterwards extended a warm welcome to the visitors. Rev. T. Coatsworth also welcomed the visiting ladies on behalf of the Methodist Church. Greetings were received from the' Dominion president (Miss -Rish worth, Auckland) and from the Masterton auxiliary. The rest of the morning was devoted to study circles, the leaders being Mesdames J. Pryde, B. Hutchings, E. Martin and Miss Harding. The pronouncing of .the Benediction brought the morning session to a close. The early portion of. the. afternoon session was occupied with a period of intercession and prayer, dui'ing which readings ware given by Miss Harding, Mi's E. Martin and Miss L. Bowman. Then followed a public:- meeting which was attended by representatives of the Salvation Army and Presbyterian Church. The meeting opened with devotions led by Miss Harding, followed by a rollcall, during which a representative from each auxiliary gave a short report on work done during the year. Recitations were given by Mesdames A. Hutchings and J. Prvde and a vocal solo, “My Task,” by Mrs F. Richards. The speaker for the afternoon was Mrs C. E. Taylor, of Feilding, who delivered an interesting and inspiring address on “Helpers Together in Prayer,” after which Miss Harding presented each lady present with a “precious promise.” Mrs Darragh, of Feilding,: returned thanks on behalf of the visitors. RUGBY FOOTBALL. In a third grade match in the Bush Rugby Union’s • competitions, played on the school football field on Saturday, Woodville beat Nirealia by 17 points to 6. A large crowd of spectators witnessed a very ragged exhibition, which in no way measured up to the standard attained in the opening match a week ago. Both sets of backs failed to handle cleanly, attempts at concerted play mvariatny breaking down. A better standard of play obtained among the forwards, Woodvilie’s advantage of weight in this division being the decisive factor. The teams were:'— Woodville.—Squires, Scott, Hulena, Walker, Dooney, Bullot, Gilmour, Pilcher, Grant, Wetherby, Burlace, Fulton, Cook, Miller, Williams. Nirelia.—Goss, Drysdale, R. Petersen, B. Petersen, J. Petersen, Goggin, Littler, Hansen, Pococlc, Sigversen, Brooks, Udy, Ramsay, Butler. Four of Woodville’s five tries, one of which was converted by Burlace, were secured in the first spell in which the visitors failed to score. Tiles were gained by Williams (2), Miller and Burlace.. A determined effort by Nirealia resulted in two tries being notched in quick succession—one bv Ramsay and the other by Hansen. Woodville, however, still had the game in hand, and their total was added to when Williams forced his way over from 25 yards out . to gain his third try. Mr Foster (Ballanoe) refereed.
